The fly of fruit, Ceratitis capitata Wied., is the major pest of citrus and Spanish major obstacle when exporting to third countries by the danger that the introduction of this pest can bring to these countries.
These constraints are translated into bilateral treaties established between third countries and Spain, based on measures of plant health that our country should fulfill in order to export its citrus fruits. In this sense, Spain has signed bilateral agreements for the export of citrus fruits to third countries, including the United States of America. Similar treaties have been established with China and Korea.
Registration in the Official Register of Producers authorized to citrus production for export to the United States constitutes acceptance of the requirements for the specific program against Ceratitis capitata, which are detailed in the rules established by the Official Services.
